Status Update

Hello Hunters,

How are we all on this fine Wednesday? Did you know, the hardest part about these Status Updates for me is writing these introductions. I feel like I am in an elevator and make eye contact with someone I don’t know very well, so have to make awkward conversation. Accept, it’s just me staring at a screen and pretending you are all here, looking over my shoulder reading this. Anyway… 😀

 

Summer Fiesta 2018

Today we start off this years Summer Fiesta, which runs until August the 31st, that’s right, all month long!

So what can you expect from this event?

The main competition is called ‘Summer Fiesta Weightsaver’. A new animal is added every Wednesday and Friday, the trick to it all is that you never know which animal is next on the chopping block. Your heaviest animal from each species is added together and their combined weight is your competition entry. This event is Single Player only.

Here is a look at the main prize from this competition, the top three people will come away with this amazing .30r.

The second part to this event are weekly competitions that are season themed (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter), these ones can be completed in either Multiplayer or Single player and run Wednesday to Wednesday Weekly. As well as em$ there are some very nice trophies that you can win.

Missions

This event is notorious for hard mission packs and I personally think that a player that manages to acquire all three badges this year, should have maximum bragging rights. I am very interested to see how everyone gets on and how many people manage to finish them all. We have tested them all here and they are all achievable… we understand they might not be everyone’s idea of fun, but a lot of the community enjoy a good challenge. This year you have to work your way through all the packs, starting at the ‘easiest’ Fire pack and ending at the Insanity pack. Here are the badges you can win!

Good luck to everyone, remember to keep breathing and count to 10 when those missions become a little infuriating. As a little bit of fun, I was talking to Flinter this morning and he was saying that he didn’t think Zaggi had the skills to complete this years missions… shots fired, watch this space!

The Big Five

What an amazing event, we managed to get 2000 entrants exactly and 752 people managed to get a score on the board. Over 2.5million kgs of digital animals were harvested and this was only every players heaviest weighing animal, not all animals that were shot… imagine what that number would have been!

Again we have to thank both theHunter Italy and Fiocchi Munitions, it has been a pleasure working with you both and the amount of positive feedback we have received from the community has been overwhelming.

A list of the top 300 competitors can be found here and a huge congratulations must go to the winners and everyone that participated. I nearly have all the winners details sorted now and I expect to be able to send the prizes out tomorrow!

 

New Item

It is time for your next clue regarding the soon to be released item. The first clue was

“I am trying to think of a hard clue that you can’t just put holes in with ease…. I think that will do.”

Known Issue(s)/Fixes

Projectiles not registering after 500m. A fix for this is currently being tested and we will release it to you as soon as it passes.

Golden 10 GA not displaying in gun racks. We are working on a fix for this and it will also be addressed in an upcoming patch.

Issues with German pointer and Scent hound. Issues with the Scent Hound tracking behaviour have been resolved in the latest patch.

Turkey and Motion Predator Decoys. This bug has been fixed in the latest patch.

This competition has become so popular that we have decided to make it a permanent feature and it’s here to stay for the foreseeable future!

Status Update

Hello Hunters,

I will try keep today’s Status Update a little shorter as it looks like most of you are deep into ‘The Big Five’ comp.

 

The Big Five

Well, only three days into this competition and we already have nearly 1400 players signed up, which is truly amazing and it is great to see such a good response from the community.

If you have not entered, there is still plenty of time left to get signed up and have a chance at the very big prize pool. Sign up can be found here and more information, including how the very nice prize pool can be claimed, can be found here.

Again we have to thank both theHunter Italy and Fiocchi Ammunition (Updated Website) for getting involved, this is shaping up to be a very nice collaboration and hopefully opens the door to future collaborations with more of the community.

 

Summer Fiesta 2018

More details will be posted next week in the forums and the Status Update. But in short you can expect:

New Item

Some of you like the guessing games and some of you don’t, but there is a new item coming out soon, this item has been stated previously as ‘Impossible to make’… but just like the newish Extended Render Range, we have once again made the impossible, possible.

I am trying to think of a hard clue that you can’t just put holes in with ease…. I think that will do.

 

Known Issue(s)/Fixes

Projectiles not registering after 500m. A fix for this is currently being tested and we will release it to you as soon as it passes.

Golden 10 GA not displaying in gun racks. We are working on a fix for this and it will also be addressed in an upcoming patch.

Issues with German pointer and Scent hound. Various issues resolved and will be added to the next patch, more details to come.

Turkey and Motion Predator Decoys. Again we have found the cause for the loss of attraction and you can expect a fix in the next patch.

All going to plan, the patch can be expected next week.

Status Update

Hello Hunters,

Well I am back, sleep deprived, but you can’t wipe the smile off my face. 10/10 would recommend being a Dad. As many of you know, it’s an amazing experience and words could never do it justice! Mum and Wyatt are doing well and he’s a little champion!

 

The Big Five

This is potentially one of the most exciting competitions ever to be run here. As you all know we love all our players and we love the communities that have formed around the world. ‘theHunter Italy’ is the Italian community group which has been running 5 years and is run to a highly professional standard, they even have backing from Italian ammunition giant ‘Fiocchi Ammunition’. Fiocchi’s products can be found globally, make sure you check out their English website here. We loved what theHunter Italy were doing and how enthusiastic they are about the game, so reached out to them earlier this year to see if they would like to get involved and collaborate together to form a competition. Not only did they say yes, but they said they would like to create all the virtual trophies and they already had some ideas ready to go, did I mention how professional they are?

So in collaboration with theHunter Italy, their partners Fiocchi Ammunitions and theHunter: Classic I am proud to present to you all ‘The Big Five’.

When: 0900 CEST, Monday the 23rd of July (next week), until Monday the 30th of July (7 Days)

Scoring: Highest Combined Weight of your heaviest Moose, Bison, Polar Bear, Water Buffalo and Roosevelt Elk.

Attempts: 15.

Allowed weapons: All ethical weapons.

Optics: Allowed.

Valid: Single and Multiplayer.

Equipment: No blinds, stands, towers or shooting tripod rests allowed.

Sign up: Signup opens Sunday the 22nd of July at 0900 CEST (24 hours before start) and signup can be found in the competition section of the launcher here.

Football Jamboree 2018

Well what an amazing World Cup! I have to say I started not so interested in Football and ended quite the fan, so many upsets and big teams knocked out. Congratulations to France for winning, Croatia for a very well respected 2nd and Belgium for a well deserved 3rd. All trophies and the Golden Gun have been handed out now and I have seen some nice videos on YouTube showing it off!

Status Update

Hello Hunters,

I hope you are all having a good week, today’s Status Update brings everyone the final information regarding the 2018 Football Jamboree as well as some information about other events players can look forward to over the summer break!

 

theHunter: Classic Football Jamboree 2018

The Football Jamboree is an event like none other on the calendar year and it is easy to participate!

This year there are two competitions, the ‘Main Event’ and ‘theHunter Football Jamboree League’.

The ‘Main Event’ is directly influenced by the FIFA World Cup and all you have to do is head to theHunter Store and purchase the pants that represent your favorite team or teams. Then if your team wins the FIFA World Cup, you win this lovely ‘Golden 10 GA Lever Action Shotgun’:

‘theHunter: Classic Football Jamboree League’

This event is our very own, around the world competition. Over the course of the FIFA World Cup there will be 8 different competitions that are reserve specific, each competition lasts for 4 days and your highest scores combined from each animal species on the reserve is your competition criteria. Midsummer Competition 2018

On top of the Football Jamboree, we are also going to be hosting the annual ‘Midsummer Event’, which runs from June the 20th to June the 25th. That is 5 days of even more competitions, sales and a very nice mission pack to look forward too. Even though we are thin on the ground due to holidays, we are still bringing you the content! GDPR Regulations Changes.

You might have noticed some extra notifications in the launcher and website regarding GDPR. Please take the time to read through the information provided, because some policies and agreements have changed.

Known Issue(s)/Fixes

Missing Hunter Score. This was caused by both the .300 and .300 carbon being merged by mistake. We are looking into a possible fix and will have more information to you as soon as we have a solution. Sorry! (Ongoing Investigation)

Barrel/Bait Sites. Investigation has commenced and we will update with more information when we have it. Please continue to provide your input on the bug forums as we are having difficult replicating this issue. The more information we have the sooner we will have a fix to you!

Gun Wobble in Towers. We think this one has been squished, we are putting it through the testing phase. As soon as we are happy, we will add it into the next patch.

Projectiles not registering after 500m. We are currently investigating, we know why it is happening, we just have to work out how to fix it.

Deployable Targets Not Rendering beyond 220m. We are confident that we have this one nailed as well. As soon as we finish the testing it will be added to the next patch.

Fast Traveling Ropes. We are confident that we have this one nailed as well. As soon as we finish the testing it will be added to the next patch. You can expect a very healthy patch in the near future.

Status Update

Hello Hunters,
Yesterday was National Day of Sweden and the whole country was out in the sunshine enjoying themselves. But it was also the reason the Status Update is on Thursday this week. So no more delays… let’s dive into that information!

Deployable Targets

These new additions have been out in the store for two days now and we are getting some very nice feedback from the community, almost as nice as the feedback you receive when shooting those bells, “DIIINNNNNG!”
So how do they work? Here is a run down on everything you need to know:
All Deployable Targets and Shooting Mats are deployed with the same functionality as any other deployable item in game. All Mats and Targets spook animals when placed. The reserve limit for Mats and Targets is 30.

Shooting Mats:

  • To use a mat, approach it and once the option appears, press ‘E’ and follow the prompts in the radial menu.
  • While on the mat you will not consume ammunition, all shots will be registered on the scoreboard (in Multiplayer only) and you can not shoot at animals.
    While on the mat a player can not walk or run, but can enter any firing stance (Standing, crouching and prone).
  • Firing from the mat will spook animals.
  • The shooting mats remove foliage when placed on the ground, this has been done to assist with a clearer field of vision.
  • We wanted to make this as flexible as we could for users to create competitions, so shooters do not have to be bound to one mat. You could in theory set up a shooting course. For example a competitor could start at mat ‘A’, have to shoot 3 targets, with 3 bullets in ‘X’ amount of time. Then run to mat ‘B’ and shoot the next lot of targets with whatever house rules have decided and then move to… etc.
  • Only the host can clear the scoreboard.
  • To leave a mat, simply press the ‘E’ button again.
  • There are 3 different variations to pick from, all provide the same function.

Animal Targets:

  • There are 3 animal silhouettes you can pick from, a Rabbit, Deer and Bear.
  • Each animal type comes in three different colour variations, White, Black or Black with a Red Outline.
  • There are no difference in functionality between the colour variations, we triedto provide a range that would work in different environments. We also understand that everyone’s eyes work differently and we hope that these variations help to cater to these needs.
  • Each animal scores different points when hit in the red bell (Rabbit 7, Deer 5 and Bear 3)
  • If you are close enough, you will get a very satisfying ‘Ding’ noise to confirm you have hit.
  • To free people up from FPS drop, bullet holes will always show if you hit the bell. But over 120m, the bullet decals will not show anywhere else on the animal models. When testing we found that FPS started to drop quite rapidly the more bullet holes we retained at distance. Never fear, the long range (field) targets show bullet holes at any distance and on the animal targets you can still actually see the projectile impact.
  • Hitting the target in the bell will give you shot information in the bottom right corner, points and distance.

Field Targets:

  • There are 6 different target variations to select from.
  • The more rings a variation has, the more points can be scored when shot.
  • The smallest being 1,2,3 and the largest being 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, depending which ring you hit.
  • The targets are on a swing arm, meaning they rock back when hit.
  • These targets are designed for the longer shots, but also add more variation into the scoring of any competition that is set up.
  • If you are close enough you will hear the impact on the target, “DING”.
  • Hitting the target will give you shot information in the bottom right hand corner, points and distance.

The Scoreboard:

  • Can be accessed by pressing ‘F3’ in multiplayer games.
  • Only a host can clear the scoreboard of scores.
  • Total Score: A players’ total score that has been accumulated by shooting Targets.
  • Total Shots: The total number of shots taken while on a Shooting Mat.
  • Efficiency: Your average score worked out on how many shots have been taken.
  • Accuracy: What percentage of shots have hit the targets.

If you have not had a go with them yet, we will be hosting an open multiplayer game today live on stream and you can come and try to out shoot me :) …. Should be easy!

theHunter: Classic Football Jamboree 2018

Next Thursday this amazing event kicks off, last Thursday on stream we revealed the ‘Golden Gun’ that everyone can win, and this year it is the popular ‘10 GA Lever Action Shotgun’. If you would like to see it in the flesh you can check out the replay here, skip to 6mins 45seconds to check out the ‘Golden Gun’ and stay around longer if you want to see the Deployable Targets in action as well!

Next Wednesday the full event details will be available to everyone in the Status Update and in the forums. But my tip would be to start googling which teams are the favorite to win the 2018 FIFA World cup.

 

Swedish Holidays and ‘Swewis’ (Skip if you read it last week)

We are now entering Summer for the Northern Hemisphere, this means the holiday period is soon here for most countries. Stockholm is a ghost town throughout July and August as Swedes go and let out a years worth of bottled up emotions and stress on other countries around the world. If you would like a little tongue-in-cheek look into Swedish Culture this video sums it all up pretty well.

But anyway how does this affect you guys??? Well hopefully it doesn’t, but it is worth mentioning a few things to consider:
We will have a much thinner team here over the two months. We have staggered out holidays amongst the team, so we always have people here, however our bandwidth will be a lot smaller.
Status Updates will become Bi-weekly.
Our Support team will always be available, but with a reduced team size, response times will be slower than normal.
We still have an action packed summer planned with lots of fun events and some very nice releases!

What is a ‘Swewi’ you are asking? Well if a baby is born that is half Swedish and half Kiwi, that is what you end up with, a ‘Swewi’! My partner Jenny and I are expecting a baby boy, he is due on the 24th of June and so at any time or day shortly I will have to take off for a month. We are both very excited as this is our first child and while I think I am mentally prepared for this… I know I never really will be, exciting times!

Game Update

Hello Hunters,

Here are the notes from today’s patch.

Bug fixes:

  • Fix to iron sight and bow magnification issue.
  • Fix to visual bug where bait was not displayed in feeders.
  • Improvements to ballistics of the .17 HMR HV.
    • Drop rate reduced.
    • Velocity increased.
    • Weight slightly decreased.

Status Update

Hello Hunters,

Since the last update, I can hardly see you all now, lucky I have my nice new spotting scope…ahhhh my Mum thinks I am funny!

In today’s Status Update, we will be starting to take a look at the summer plans for theHunter: Classic, this includes up and coming competitions and addressing the holiday period here in Sweden!

 

theHunter: Classic Football Jamboree 2018

Two years have passed just like that and it’s nearly already time for the 2018 FIFAWorld Cup! Now I must say, Football, or Soccer as it is called in New Zealand, is not as big a deal to most people as Rugby is, but this competition really excites me because of the layout and fun ‘Round Robin’ style of the event.

The event will kick off on Thursday the 14th of June, which gives you two weeks to start planning your strategy to ensure you secure yourself the the ‘Golden Gun’. In 2016 it was the ‘Royal Bullpup’. The gun this year is equally as nice and if you tune into the stream on Thursday, you will get a first-hand look at it.

Closer to the event we will release the full event rules and details set out for the 2018 competition. But the main part of the event consists of purchasing an item of clothing that represents your team or teams of choice. The first year it was caps, 2016 saw players wearing shirts and this year if you own the pants for the winning team in the end, you will win the ‘Golden Gun’. All the pants are heavily discounted before the games start, with the discount gradually reduced as the World cup progresses, which is where people’s strategies will come into play. Will you buy all the pants from the start? Will you purchase the pants of 10 teams you feel have a shot? Will you wait until the finals and just buy both teams pants? Maybe you know your country will win and you just purchase the one pair of pants! To give you some more history of the event you can read more details from the 2016 Event here and the 2014 Event here. It is worth mentioning again that the 2018 rules may differ slightly and these past links should be used as a guide, so you get an idea of what you can expect from this year’s event.

As well as the main event, there will be Bi-Weekly competitions and a mission pack available for everyone to partake in. I am looking forward to it…Though I am not sure which team I will support this year??? “Heja Sverige”(Go Sweden)!?

 

Swedish Holidays and ‘Swewis’

We are now entering Summer for the Northern Hemisphere, this means the holiday period is soon here for most countries. Stockholm is a ghost town throughout July and August as Swedes go and let out a years worth of bottled up emotions and stress on other countries around the world. If you would like a little tongue-in-cheek look into Swedish Culture this video sums it all up pretty well.

But anyway how does this affect you guys??? Well hopefully it doesn’t, but it is worth mentioning a few things to consider:

  • We will have a much thinner team here over the two months. We have staggered out holidays amongst the team, so we always have people here, however our bandwidth will be a lot smaller.
  • Status Updates will become Bi-weekly.
  • Our Support team will always be available, but with a reduced team size, response times will be slower than normal.

We still have an action packed summer planned with lots of fun events and some very nice releases!

What is a ‘Swewi’ you are asking? Well if a baby is born that is half Swedish and half Kiwi, that is what you end up with, a ‘Swewi’! My partner Jenny and I are expecting a baby boy, he is due on the 24th of June and so at any time or day shortly I will have to take off for a month. We are both very excited as this is our first child and while I think I am mentally prepared for this… I know I never really will be, exciting times!

A New Associate Community Manager

This is a great chance to introduce our new Associate Community Manager, Ann-Charlotte, but you can call her AC for short! She is great fun to work with and brings even more energy and enthusiasm to the team, I am sure she is going to fit in amongst the community very well! AC will be mainly working on COTW, but while I am away you can expect to see both AC and Graham active in the forums and handling all that precious information that everyone craves. Anyway here is a nice intro from AC herself and you can meet her live on stream tomorrow.

You might have noticed some extra notifications in the launcher and website regarding GDPR. Please take the time to read through the information provided, because some policies and agreements have changed.

Known Issue(s)/Fixes

Missing Hunter Score. This was caused by both the .300 and .300 carbon being merged by mistake. We are looking into a possible fix and will have more information to you as soon as we have a solution. Sorry! (Ongoing Investigation)

Game Update

Hey Hunters,

Here are the notes from today’s patch.

Changes:

  • Render range now applies to all entities (Players and Animals)

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed Climbing Ropes and Bait Sites.
  • Fixed a possible crash on connecting to a multiplayer game.
  • Deployable items no longer sometimes show the distance to the nearest lodge when you place it too close to a tent.
  • Fixed inconsistent pie menus on host placed items.
  • Fixed reserve item limits and distance constraints that were not applying to players that were joining a host.
  • Long Range Spotting Scope now gives the spotting info for animals above the normal render range of 220m.

Game Update

Game Update – 23rd May 2018

Hello Hunters,

Today’s patch sees the release of the Extended Render Range (ERR) and Multiplayer Deployables.

As with a lot of new features, some of the questions and magic we will let you guys find out and discover for yourselves. But I have been monitoring the feedback on the forums and I will try and cover a few of the major questions. Before we get into the Q&A, it’s worth pointing out that as always, we will be monitoring the community’s feedback on these new features. Because they are such huge changes, we want to make sure that you guys and gals are happy!

 

Extended Render Range (ERR)

How will this affect my HunterMate?”

It doesn’t. Even though you can see animals at a greater distance, your HunterMate still functions out to 220m. Animals will not call over 220m and therefore your HunterMate functions exactly the same as it did beforehand.

“How does the ERR affect animals spooking from gunshots?”


Currently, depending on the size of the gun you are using, it will depend on how far the sound travels and this is actually true for both single and multiplayer games. So before you could not see the animals over 220m fleeing, now you probably can… which might be a little bit frustrating as you see a previously unseen trophy animal dart away 😛 But in short, the spook mechanics have not changed either and are working as they always have.

“Do my current Optics still work?”

Yes they sure do, the only thing they are lacking is the magnification at the longer ranges. You will still be able to see the animals through them.

“Will the new spotting scope have the rangefinder ability in them?”

At this stage no. We are going to wait to get some more community feedback after you have actually all tried everything out. The current rangefinding Binos do work out to the new ERR and beyond, but if people feel they are still inadequate, we will have a look at some options.

“Why can I not use the new scope on “X” gun?”

We tried to pick rifles that in real life are more likely to be used at longer ranges. We feel this adds more immersion for players and more feeling that it is long range. It also starts to give the selection of guns a bit more depth and adds a bit more spice when deciding which gun you will select for your hunts.

Here is the list of guns that can fit the new scope:

  • 7mm Magnum Break Action Rifles
  • 7mm Magnum Bullpup Rifles
  • 8×57 IS Anschütz 1780 D FL Bolt Action Rifles
  • 9.3×62 Anschütz 1780 D FL Bolt Action Rifles
  • 9.3x74R O/U Break Action Rifles
  • .30 R O/U Break Action Rifles
  • .45-70 Government Lever Action Rifles
  • .223 Bolt Action Rifles
  • .300 Bolt Action Rifles
  • .340 Weatherby Magnum Bolt Action Rifles
  • 7x64mm Bolt Action Rifle.

“I don’t really use guns, why should I be excited?”

Now you will be able to more effectively spot and stalk. Beforehand you could see that trophy animal at 220m away, now you can see them at a much greater distance, which will ultimately help you plan your hunt and influence where you go!

“What range do my callers work to now?”

Nothing has changed with the calling mechanics and this includes effective distances.

“But TK what about “X” question?”

If you have anymore questions, put them in the discussion page in our forums and I will try my best to answer them for you all.

We have one known issue with the new spotting scope that has slipped into the build, animals over 220m will not highlight or show spotting information. We are already working on getting it fixed and will get it out to you all ASAP! Sorry for the inconvenience.

 

Multiplayer Deployables

As of today’s update, you can now place deployable equipment as a guest in a hosts multiplayer game.

When you leave the game for any reason, be it disconnected, you leave or are kicked, your items leave the current game and are transferred back to your inventory, ready for your next hunt! This comes with a little warning however, if you are in someone’s equipment and they disconnect, you will be removed from the equipment and it will be returned to the owners inventory. This is done to insure everybody’s equipment is safe and sound. I am sure if you accidentally got disconnected, you would want to know your gear is safe and sound! We are investigating ways to warn a user that the equipment they are using is about to disappear, to hopefully prevent some confusion.

All deployable equipment is placed and functions the same as it would in a single player game.

Again we will be monitoring the community feedback closely on this and like the ERR, if you have any questions please put them in the discussion thread and I will do my best to answer.

These are some very exciting times to be part of here at theHunter: Classic and there are many more to come!

  • Fixed missing Cottontail and Snowshoe Hare footprint clues.
  • Fixed incorrect clue icons for Cottontail Rabbit droppings tracks.
  • Bison and Water buffalo are now less fond of cuddling with the player.
  • Fixed immortal Canada Goose issue.

Known Issues:

  • New spotting scope currently not providing spotting info beyond 240m. This fix is schedule to be patched in the next update.
