.223 Ammo Changes
There have been a lot of complaints from players that the .223 simply did not perform well enough on some of the animals it was intended for. So, we’ve decided to make the bullet just a little heavier, so that it can quite easily take down even Coyotes and Roe Deer. We’ve also added the Red Kangaroo to the list of permitted species since it is widely used in Australia for this kind of hunting.
When we released the .303 British Bolt Action Rifle, the permitted species list was perhaps a little too permissive for the type of bullet we chose. By switching from hollow point to jacketed soft point we got a bit better penetration for this ammunition, making it more suitable for the animals on the permitted list. However, it is still a rifle for the skilled hunter, and a good shot placement remains essential. The tweak we are introducing today does not make a cannon out of your .303 British Bolt Action Rifle, but it at least turns it into a very decent hunting rifle.

Changes
Fellow Hunters,
as our beloved Alena is still on vacation, we present you another slightly larger game update instead of the regular status update.
So, what’s new?
Dog Spooking
The dog systems have been polished and your furry friend will now correctly spook other animals. No more immersion breaking super stealth dogs.
This also brings much more attention to your dog’s skills.
Our Game Designer Daniel wrote a little note on the reasoning:
“As many of you have noticed the animals in theHunter do not really care that there is a whole bunch of Labrador Retrievers running around the Evergreen Hunting Reserve. The dogs can bark, just sit in plain sight of a deer or rush around among a flock of geese on a field and it would not upset any of the animals. This was, as many of you understand, not our intention. Several of the skills the dog have are based on that the dog should spook animals but these skills are rendered pointless for the moment. Until now. We have fixed the bug so that the barking can spook animals. The issue that the dog won’t spook animals that see it has also been addressed. Luckily the more you level up your dog, the more stealthy it will get.
Things that governs a dog’s visibility are:
So now leveling up your dog is more than just making sure your dog follows the fetch command as often as possible. Now leveling up is what will make the difference between a rowdy mutt and a loyal working dog.”

this patch brings fancy changes so we decided to make the game update a little fancier as well (mostly we just want to fool around with Alena’s established systems while she is on vacation).
So, what’s new?
Fetching rabbits is here!
By popular demand your furry friend is now able to retrieve rabbits as well!
Enjoy the hunt and let us know your stories!

On the spook radius in theHunter
Spook radius is a fine term for a small part of what affects the animal AI. On its own it is just what it says: A radius within which any animal has a chance of spooking from the sound of a weapon being fired. However, spook radius alone does not decide if an animal spooks or not: Different species react differently to sound; some are really nervous compared to others. Different animals within each species react differently to sound too; some of the large ones are way more wary than the smaller ones. Another layer is the general nervousness of the animal: Does it feel safe at the moment? If so, it will take more to spook it. So, despite a hard number being set for the spook radius, it is affected by other circumstances that will make each shot having quite different consequences.
