I hope everyone is having a good week, all going to plan my week is going to get even better. This Saturday I am getting out for a hunt here in Sweden and then on Sunday, both Graham and I have our archery safety introduction at the local archery club. Which means (touch wood), we will have somewhere local to let arrows fly whenever we want. Now, I am still watching the ‘Land of the Free’ series that I linked last week, as they have just started their second season and a new episode comes out every day. Their videos are awesome and if you are a US resident, they have some amazing prizes to be won, so get amongst it! But, if perhaps they are not your cuppa tea, today’s video suggestions are the ‘Hushin crew’. They are also making some good videos and worth a watch. Crossbow Pistol

Today we have released the Crossbow Pistol and you can now pick it up in the store. This lightweight Crossbow can be carried in your ‘Small Weapon Holster’ and is perfect for small game. There is also a red dot scope that is available for it and it makes aiming a lot easier. The scope can be found here and the Crossbow Pistol can be found here, enjoy! As is traditional when we release a new weapon, there is a competition to go along side it; so make sure you sign up and test your skill!

Calibre Competition

SOME SUPER IMPORTANT INFORMATION, PLEASE READ!!!!!

So originally we had 4 options to vote from, and one of them was the 7mm, which would have been the same 7mm ammo that is in game at the moment. However, the 7mm option was removed and replaced with a 7mm-08 round, which IS NOT THE SAME as the 7mm round that is in game currently. We have reset the poll, to make sure the votes are still accurate and we have also left the poll open, which means you can change your vote. The 7mm-08 round, would be completely new in game and have a different ethical species list, compared to the 7mm. The list is not finalised yet, but if it is the winning calibre, it will either have a light grain round and be ethical from Fox to Red Deer (maybe Rocky Mountain Elk, but not Roosevelt, due to the size difference). Or if it has a heavier grain bullet, it would be ethical from Coyote to Elk.

Now if you are wondering what all this is about, In December we have our next ‘Advanced Firearm’ coming out, ‘The Scout’. The only email addresses we use are either ones from @avalanchestudios.se, @expansiveworlds.com or @thehunter.com. These scams ask for your account details and your password and you will lose everything. We WILL NEVER, EVER, EVER, ask you for your password and you should not give it to anyone, ever.

To sum up:

• If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
• Do not accept anything from an email address that is different to the ones mentioned above.
• If in doubt, contact myself or send an email to [email protected]. We can verify anything for you.
• NEVER GIVE YOUR PASSWORD OUT TO ANYONE, this goes for anything on the internet.

We are going to contact Google about the account, but sadly they will probably just make a new email address that is similar. So the best action is just to make everyone aware, stay sharp!

The daylight hours here in Sweden are rapidly dwindling by the day. The mist, rain and clouds are settling in for the impending Winter, which will see them convert into hail, sleet and then snow. But as many know, this is a good time to be out in the wilderness as many huntable species are more active and vocal. Halloween 2018

Yesterday we wrapped this years Halloween Event up and all indicators so far show that it was a very good event and enjoyed by a lot of hunters. We have put together a survey so we can gauge the event and use the information you provide to us, to continue to make improvements and make next year even better! November, Means Movember!

Wowsa… it’s November already! If you have played the game for awhile, you will know that this is the month, when the Mustaches become purchasable! So if you missed out last year, or perhaps you feel like wearing a new style this year, just head to our store page and pick one up! It is worth noting that a few years ago we donated some of the profits to a charity, this year this will not happen.

Unfortunately next week (15th Nov), we have a company wide meeting and to line it up with the New York office’s timezone, it runs through our scheduled streaming time. Halloween 2018

I hope everyone is enjoying this years Halloween event! Social media is absolutely full of great photos and trophy shots!

Twitchcon 2018 (a quick run down)

Last week Graham and myself ventured to Twitchcon, which was in San Jose, California, USA. Twitchcon was amazing and had us busy for 4 days of workshops, networking and checking out how other companies in the industry were doing things. We were sent there to represent Avalanche Studios as a whole, and not so much ‘theHunter’ franchise, however both classic and COTW got talked about many times.

As it was my first time in the states, in the limited spare time we did have, I wanted to make sure I tried to do and see some stereotypical American things. We visited a Denny’s for breakfast, a Target and a Walmart just for the ‘Wow’ factor. Ate fried chicken wings, had some Panda express, ate at a burger bar and had some American pizza. While a lot of you American readers will probably be laughing or perhaps shaking your head at what you just read. For a lad growing up in little old New Zealand, these are the things we see and hear about in the media and personally seeing and doing it all was just ticking some fun boxes. Next time I come over I hope to be able to see some of the amazing scenery and maybe even get some hunting in!

I think by far the two most impressive things we did and saw was the Bass Pro Shop and going to a shop that specialised in Archery, we were so impressed with the latter that both Graham and I purchased a Compound Bow each!

The Bass Pro Shop, was by far the biggest shop I have ever been into and if I stop to think it was only a hunting shop, it blows my mind! I wonder where the biggest one is and how much more amazing they can get? Here are some photos from inside the shop:

The entrance way, all those are real antlers!

Once inside, the true size of the shop hits you. All guns and Bows must be checked in before proceeding through the gates.

The hallway is at a guess over 100m long and filled with dioramas that all have real animals in them. Many were shot, but a lot have been taxidermied after being hit by cars as well.

It even has an aquarium in it.

Sorry for the photo quality, but this is their Boon and Crockett wall of fame. These are all Whitetails and none of them scored under 200.

Just to wrap up the bows quickly, I purchased a Mission Hype DTX in the end, I originally was going to buy a Diamond Edge SB-1, but they convinced me to put a little more money in and pick up this nice bow. I got it setup with a 60lb draw weight and it feels like nothing, absolutely amazing!

I even managed to split my first arrow and as satisfying as it was, I quickly realised that it gets expensive. Both arrows fused themselves together and I am now down to 10 arrows.

Graham got himself a very nice (lefty) Hoyt Hyper Force and is also loving it!

It’s safe to say we both have a lot to practice and work on, but we are loving it so far. Next year bow hunting is supposed to become legal in Sweden, so fingers crossed!

Halloween 2018

BOO! That’s right, Halloween 2018 is now underway!

The whole event and Werewolf will be huntable until Sunday November the 4th, so make some room in your Trophy Lodge and head into Timbergold Trails for a truly spooky experience!

This year we have a new mission pack and if you complete it, not only will you get a nice Trophy and a pile of gm$, you will also unlock this awesome .308 ‘Wolfsbane’ and a pack of silver bullets!

If missions are not your thing, the .308 ‘Wolfsbane’ will be available for purchase in store as a premium weapon.

This year we have exchanged the pumpkins for these amazing skulls!

Each skull is worth a different amount of points (Skull$) with the rarest skulls being worth the most:

• Green Skull Collectable = 1 Skull$
• Blue Skull Collectable = 5 Skull$
• Red Skull Collectable = 20 Skull$
• Purple Skull Collectable = 50 Skull$
• Dia de Muertos Skull Collectable = 100 Skull$
• Dark Ritual Skull Collectable (Black with the star) = 666 Skulls

As well as finding Collectable Skulls there are also other ways to gather Skull$ points:

• Submitting an entry any of the Halloween Competitions = 50 Skull$
• Harvest an animal in TGT = 1 Skull$
• Harvest any animal shot in the Skull (TGT only) = 5 Skull$
• Harvest a Werewolf = 25 Skull$

This year, there are some great prizes to be won:

Hi all!I just wanted to give you a short update in place of the normal Status Update whilst TK is enjoying some well-earned vacation. You all might have heard of a little thing called “Generation Zero” that’s been keeping me particularly busy, so unfortunately it’ll have to be short and sweet.  Normal service resumed next week!

Halloween 2018 Teaser

The whole team are working hard to give you an extra special Halloween event this year. Once the finishing touches are in place we will release the full details along with the Status Update next week. Until then, build up your hunting skills (and your nerves!) for one of our most spooky events yet!

Halloween 2018

For the next few weeks we are going to ‘Park’ the vehicle discussion and focus on Halloween!

Last year was so popular we thought instead of trying to change the theme up, why not stick with what we had last year, give it A LOT of polish and make it bigger and better than ever?!

You guys have asked for more information faster, so let’s give it a try this time and see how it goes!

• The Event will start on Wednesday the 24th of October, so you have two weeks to get ready.
• This year (following community feedback) the Werewolf is huntable and also comes in a rare variation, both can be taxidermied.
• The Werewolf has both score and weight variations and will have its own section in the leaderboards.
• New animations and AI improvements have been made to the Werewolf, he is even more scary than last year and if he smells you… well, you better be faster than he is!
• There will be two new weapons that can be used to kill the Werewolf, one brand new Wolfsbane Crossbow Pistol and one new Wolfsbane .308 Handgun variation.
• The Wolfsbane .308 Handgun and a pack of Silver Bullets can be unlocked by completing a new mission pack.
• If missions are not your thing, the new Wolfsbane Crossbow Pistol and a pack of Silver Bolts can be won by placing in the Halloween competition.
• The Crossbow Pistol will also have an additional standard skin, that can be purchased in the store. Unlike the Wolfsbane skin, this version will take standard ammunition rather than the Silver Bolts used for hunting the Werewolf.
• Additional Silver Bullets/Bolts will need to be purchased/acquired.
• Both new Wolfsbane weapons will be usable after the event with standard ammunition, but won’t be available in the store.
• We have added new collectables and there is lots of new Halloween content to be found.
• For the Halloween enthusiasts, we also have a new mask you can purchase.

From this Friday until Monday the 22nd I will be on leave. New Zealand finally got steam power, so my parents set off 4 months ago on-board a steamliner to come and meet their grandson for the first time.

Graham and AC will be handling all the day to day tasks in my absence and you should not even notice I am gone.

As an extra bonus and a little bit of fun, live on stream last week. I managed to bag a rare that I thought I would only ever dream about, an Albino Red Fox.

It did not score high, in fact it was only 14.826, but I am super happy nonetheless.

Bobcat Mission Pack and Scent Spray.

Today we release Bobcat missions and Bobcat Scent Spray into the EHR.

The Bobcat missions are here to stay and will be a nice addition for the mission runners to get their teeth into. You can find the mission pack here.

The Bobcat Scent Spray is used just like the Lynx Scent Spray and will be a great addition to your hunting toolbox. Remember to have it facing the correct direction before using it :P.

Community Discord Server

We have re-launched the Official Discord Server with lots more channels, including text channels where you can all talk! This should make it a lot easier to find other players who want to go for a hunt. We have also set it up for Community Content Creators to be able to show their videos easy, as well as promote up and coming streams. This will now also be a place we will be posting official information.

Today’s question comes from thomas__s_0417, who asked on Instagram “Will the hunter classic come out on Xbox one??”

This week’s question will be answered by Producer Beth!

“At present we have no plans to bring Classic to Xbox One. Classic is a complex game with many features and a lot of depth, so it would probably require changes to our existing controls and interface to adapt them for hand-held controls and console devices. For now, we want to invest that time into improving the current game on PC for our existing fans.”

Make sure to head over and let us know what you would like to know. A friendly bit of advice is to make sure they are questions, “I want to see X’ Is not a question and makes it hard for anyone to answer.

Known Issue(s)/Fixes

Scope and zooming issues: Players have reported that after using scopes or optics, different aspects of player controls have been freezing up, we are currently investigating this issue. If you are experiencing this bug please send us your feedback as we aren’t yet able to reliably reproduce the problem (which makes it much more difficult to fix).

Rare and Trophy of the Week

These Weekly competitions are super popular. The Trophy of the Week gets selected on Monday’s and Rare of the Week gets selected on Wednesday’s.

So, if you have shot a rare or high scoring animal from this week and want a chance to win, then share them in the correct thread on our forum, don’t forget to mention the score! Rares go into this thread and trophy animals into this one. We currently don’t have a competition for Non-Typicals, but they go into this thread.

This Weeks Winners

The ‘Trophy of the Week’ is this MONSTER Mule!! It was shot by ‘HighPlainsDrifter’ and scored 243.858! If you are wondering what many consider a trophy Mule Deer, it is anything over the 200 scoring mark.

And the ‘Rare of the Week’ goes to ‘Ardillamente’ for this Bald Leucistic Canada Goose, a very nice harvest and a great Trophy Shot!.

How is everyone this week? It looks like people are managing to get to grips with the Lynx, which is great news!

Mid-September Madness

Mid-September Madness is now underway!

This week there is a good chance at least one of the competitions takes your fancy. Not only do we have 5 different competitions to select from, they are also all tiered, so you will only be competing against hunters of similar hunter score.

The tiers look like this:

• Hematite 0 – 999
• Bronze 1000 – 9999
• Silver 10 000 – 24 999
• Gold 25 000 – 49 999
• Diamond 50 000 – Up

Every competition and every tier has great prizes and very nice trophies to be won:

• 1st – 600em$
• 2nd – 450em$
• 3rd – 300em$
• 4th – 100em$
• 5th – 50em$

And these are the competitions:

• Mid-September Madness 2018: Tiny Nightmares: Foxes, Ptarmigans, Rabbits, Pheasant, Turkey, Bobcat, Lynx (Ptarmigans, Pheasant and Turkey must be airborne). – Combined Heaviest Weight
• Mid-September Madness 2018: Mid-sized Mania: Goats, Sheep, Coyote, Grey Wolf, Red Kangaroo (All must be Unspooked). – Combined Heaviest Weight
• Mid-September Madness 2018: Big n’ Easy: Banteng, Water Buffalo, Bison, Bears, Wild Boar, Feral Hog (Within 30 Meters). – Combined Heaviest Weight
• Mid-September Madness 2018: Best Bucks: All Deer and Elk (Males only, One Shot). – Combined Highest Score
• Mid-September Madness 2018: Quackathon: All Ducks and Geese (All airborne). – Combined Highest Score

Eurasian Lynx

Last week we set the Lynx free into the hills of Hemmeldal and it looks like everyone is having a good time trying to bag one or two.

What do we know about the Lynx so far?

• The top score so far is 11.445.
• Most of the hot spots for Lynx are located in the western hills.
• One rare variation is melanistic, two have been shot so far. Are there more?
• A combination of callers/spray has the best chance of luring them in.

So far two melanistic Lynx have been shot;

The first was actually ’Bato Stevanovic’, but due to some issues not being able to post the trophy shot, was pipped to the post by lisarob, both are very nice harvests, congratulations.

New Transport

Nearly everyone knows that some transport is on the way to the EHR. Above is a first look hint at the vehicle.

I want to let you all know that we are committed to making sure that this maintains balance within the game and will not affect anyone else’s game play. Lots more details to come, but I just wanted to put players minds to ease a little.

Community Discord Server

We have re-launched the Official Discord Server with lots more channels, including text channels where you can all talk! This should make it a lot easier to find other players who want to go for a hunt. We have also set it up for Community Content Creators to be able to show their videos easy, as well as promote up and coming streams. This will now also be a place we will be posting official information. To join up, click here!

Currently on our Facebook and Instagram you can ask the Developers some questions. Once a week, one question will be selected and answered by a member of our team, all you have to do is find the post that has the above image and then leave your questions in the comments.

Today’s question comes from Caleb Isaac, who asked on Facebook “Is there any way you could make the internal ballistics on game more realistic? For instance, high shoulder shots with a firearm. In real life the bone breaks and massive amounts of energy are sent to the spine and lungs, but in game it just counts as a shoulder blade hit, and doesn’t really do any damage.”

This question will be answered by our Game Designer, Patrick, here is his reply!

“Hey Caleb,

Great question, I can tell you must have a lot of real life hunting experience. This would be an amazing addition to the game, however it would take a lot to implement such an improvement to the game and our game engine has some limitations that might hinder us from doing it justice. It’s always a fine balance getting the correct amount of realism into the game, as well as trying to work out what features are worth spending the time on to develop.”

Make sure to head over and let us know what you would like to know. A friendly bit of advice is to make sure they are questions, “I want to see X’ Is not a question and makes it hard for anyone to answer.

Known Issue(s)/Fixes

.22 ‘Plinkington’ performance issues: Fixed, please let us know if any of the other rifles feel drastically different after last weeks changes to ballistics.

Scope and zooming issues: Players have reported that after using scopes or optics, different aspects of player controls have been freezing up, we are currently investigating this issue. If you are experiencing this bug please send us your feedback as we aren’t yet able to reliably reproduce the problem (which makes it much more difficult to fix).

The ‘Trophy of the Week’ is this Eurasian Lynx which was shot by ‘FR_Bugs’ and scored 11.124! It is too early to determine what a trophy Lynx is yet, hopefully after a few months, we will be able to tell!

And the ‘Rare of the Week’ goes to ‘Oskar4358’ for this Albino Roe Deer with a massive score of 227.822, congrats! Great Trophy Shot and an entry into the Super Rare Gallery.
